Sawbones is the 1st book in the Laura Elliston Series! Dr Catherine Bennett is practicing medicine in New York City when she is accused of murder. Fleeing NYC with her maid, Catherine is forced to change her name to Laura and discover a new life for herself. While on a wagon train in Texas, Laura is left a sole survivor after a bloody attack by Indians and is soon saved by William Kindle who she ends up saving instead.

After preforming life-saving surgery on Kindle, they are taken back to Fort Richardson where she discovers that running from her problems will soon catch up with her.  As she deals with the men at the fort and being the only doctor around until a new doctor can show up will put her more in the spotlight than she likes to be in. With Laura and Kindle falling for each, they have to deal with unexpected turn of events for the both of them to want to disappear together into the West in the stunning conclusion to this story that sets it up for what is to come!

I enjoyed this book for the most part but at times, I found Catherine aka Laura to be way to whiny during some parts of this book. I do believe that Melissa nailed the Indian attack on the wagon train and the whole kidnapping ordeal and even though it was a little too much for some parts, it totally paints the picture of what really happened in real life during the times. Even with all the whining and bloody parts to this book, I so want to see a TV Series or Movie made from this book just to see it play out on the screen!!

Thank You to Melissa Lenhardt for writing a good first book in this series that kept my attention to the story and I can't wait to see what is next for this couple!!

This book came from my own personal Library!
