The Shark Club is the story of how a shark bite changed a young girl's life forever! Maeve and her twin brother, Robin who were orphaned at the age of 6 and sent to live with their Grandmother, Perri in her hotel. Along with a childhood friend named Daniel who also spent time at the hotel, the three kids were always together until that fateful day when 12 year old Maeve gets bitten by a blacktip shark and Daniel had just reveled his true feelings for Maeve just moments earlier. That was the moment that all of their lives changed forever.
Eighteen years later, Maeve is a world traveling Marine Biologist who absolutely loves sharks. It's when she returns home to Perri, Robin and the hotel that she realizes that her past love Daniel is back with a little girl named Hazel. As we go back and forth between the present and the past, we discover the events that lead to Daniel and Mauve breaking up and where they stand now. With Mauve having feelings for a fellow co-worker named Nick, their lives will collided with the news of illegal shark-finning operation that will hit home for Maeve closer that she ever imagined. It will lead that one moment that Maeve has to decide where her future and heart lies with everyone that is involve with the most bittersweet ending for everyone!
This book has to be the most perfect book to read during the summer and most importantly, during shark week! As you start to read this book, you understand why Maeve does what she does and even though this book doesn't end like you thought it would, it's the most perfect ending for Maeve. I can see where some people think that it doesn't have enough info for what had happened during some parts of the book but for me, it truly was a great book that made myself want to do nothing else but read it for 3 hours straight so I know who is behind the illegal shark-finning and who will Maeve choose in the end!
Thank You to Ann Kidd Taylor for putting out this great book during the most perfect time of year for shark lovers like myself!!
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book from Edelweiss!
